Faculty of Rehabilitation and Allied Health Sciences (FR & AHS)

The Riphah College of Rehabilitation Sciences (RCRS) was established in 2007 under the umbrella of Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences (FHMS) of Riphah International University with the aim to produce competent, insightful, compassionate and independent practitioners who by virtue of their intellect, active learning skills, scientific experience, diagnostic propensity, virtuous and behavioral standards and commitment to professionalism, will be equipped to assist and direct the patient or client in achieving optimum function. It was upgraded to Faculty of Rehabilitation and Allied health Sciences (FR&AHS) in 2017. It is pioneer institute in the private sector to uplift the rehabilitation profession and offering its services in main cities of Pakistan including Islamabad, Lahore, Faisalabad, Swat and Mansehra.

FR & AHS is currently offering 4 programs at Undergraduate level, 5 at Postgraduate level and a PhD program in Rehabilitation Sciences. Undergraduate programs include, Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), Bachelors in Human Nutrition and Dietetics (BS-HND), Bachelors in Medical Laboratory Technology (BS-MLT) and Bachelors in Speech and Language Pathology (BS-SLP), while Post Graduate programs include MS in Neuromuscular Physical Therapy (MS-NMPT), Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy (MS-OMPT), Sports Physical Therapy (MS-SPT), Cardiopulmonary Physical Therapy (MS-CPPT) and Speech Language Pathology (MS-SLP). FR & AHS has recently got NOC from Higher Education Commission of Pakistan to start PhD program in Rehabilitation Sciences from Fall 2019.

Prof. Dr. Asghar Khan

Dean & Chairman 3rd ICRS-2020


Dr. Asghar Khan has significant contribution for the growth of physical therapy profession in the country. He graduated in 1992 from JPMC (University of Karachi) with BSc PT degree. He started his career as physical therapist in 1992, then moved to USA and passed the license exam to practice physical therapy in Michigan (USA). He practiced physical therapy in the US for about 15 years, meanwhile he improved his qualification to the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), considered as clinical/professional doctorate in USA. His clinical experience and certificate course in evidence based orthopedic manual therapy motivated him to choose manual therapy as his area of his expertise. In 2007 he moved back to the country and started the 1st College of rehabilitation sciences with Riphah International University Islamabad, which is now one of the renowned institute of Rehabilitation Sciences in the country. He is now doing his Doctoral degree from USA.He was the founding president of Pakistan Physical Therapy Association (PPTA) and connected it with World Physical Therapy Forum (WCPT). He joined the academia in 2008 as an Assistant professor and enriched his qualification further with a post graduate diploma (professional ethics and teaching methodology). In 2010 he was nominated as secretary of the National Curriculum Revision Committee (NCRC) of Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC). Currently he is leading the Riphah College of Rehabilitation Sciences as Dean of Faculty of Rehabilitation & Allied Health Sciences. He has 17 publications in HEC recognized journals, conducted various workshops in different institutes of the country and supervised 34 thesis of Post-professional DPT students. He is also the chief editor of Journal of Riphah College of Rehabilitation Sciences (JRCS).

Prof. Dr. Syed Shakil-ur-Rehman

Director & Secretory 3rd ICRS-2020

Dr. Syed Shakil-ur-Rehman is Professor and Director at Riphah College of Rehabilitation and Allied Health Sciences, Lahore Campus. He did his PhD in Physical Therapy from the University of Lahore in 2017 and his research project was on the Effects of supervised structured aerobic exercise training in patients with type-2 diabetes mellitus.  He did his BS Physical Therapy from Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, Karachi in 2002, MS in Musculoskeletal Physical Therapy in 2005 from Ziauddin Medical University, Karachi and completed his Post Professional – Doctor of Physical Therapy degree (equivalent to M.Phil by HEC) in 2011 from Riphah International University Islamabad. Dr. Shakil also did PGD in Professional Ethics and Teaching Methodology in 2009 from Riphah International University He has got an extensive academic and clinical experience in the arena of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation that spans around more than a decade. He has taught at Ziauddin Medical University Karachi, Baqai Medical University Karachi and Riphah International University Islamabad. Besides teaching,

Dr. Shakil has also got an experience in conducting and supervising research studies. He is credited with 40 research papers published in HEC and PMDC recognized research Journals, besides he has supervised 60 MS/ M. Phil theses. His major area of research interest includes identifying the long term effects of exercise on the human body in different disease conditions.He has also the experience of organizing research conference in Rehabilitation Sciences as chairman. Dr. Shakil organized the 1st International Conference on Rehabilitation Sciences in 2014 at PC Lahore as a chairman organizing Committee, 1st National Conference on Rehabilitation Sciences in 2015 at JFC Islamabad as secretary, and 2nd International Conference on Rehabilitation Sciences in at JFC Islamabad as a chairman. He also led the process of WCPT accreditation of DPT program at RCRS, which was successfully completed in 2017 and become the first ever PT program accredited from WCPT in South Asia. Dr. Shakil is also the member of National Curriculum Review Committee (NCRC) of Higher Education Commission (HEC).

Prof. Dr. Arshad Nawaz Malik

Chairman, Scientific Committee 3rd ICRS-2020                                                                                                                                                    

Dr. Arshad is a nationally renowned rehabilitation professional with 14 years of academic and clinical experience. He is specialized in neuro-rehab and is working as Professor at Riphah College of Rehabilitation Sciences, Riphah International University, Lahore. He is professionally qualified and has done PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences in 2018 from Isra University, Islamabad. He is certified in Neuro-rehabilitation from Seoul National University, South Korea and also completed diploma in Health Professional education.

Dr. Malik is a certified research professional from Dow University of health sciences, Karachi. He has published more than 75 Research articles in various Impact factor and HEC recognized Journals. He presented papers in international conference on medical education in Mauritius (2013) and Istanbul, Turkey (2015). He remained Editor of Journal Riphah College of Rehabilitation Sciences for 2 years. Dr. Malik worked in nationally reputed medical institutions across the country including Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences Islamabad, Children Hospital Institute of Child Health, Lahore and Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University.

Dr. M. Salman Bashir, Associate Professor

He is working as Associate professor and Associate Dean Post Graduate Programs & Research in Riphah International University, Lahore Campus. He worked as Associate professor and In-Charge Post Graduate Programs (MS/MPhil) in University of Lahore. He  provided his services in teaching, Research  and clinical establishments of different Organizations, Allama Iqbal College of Physiotherapy, Jinnah Hospital, School of Allied Health Sciences, Children Hospital, Shifa International Hospital, Ganj Baksh Spinal Research and Rehabilitation Hospital Lahore, Imperial College of Business Studies(ICBS)and Life Line Hospital. He provided services as an adjunct faculty member in paramount universities around Pakistan in particular King Edward Medical University, Lahore and University of Health Sciences, Lahore. He secured pivotal roles in these organizations for the profound uplifting of academic, conjectural, literary and research projects as a scholarly professional and researcher.

He did his BS Physiotherapy from School of Physiotherapy Mayo Hospital Lahore, King Edward Medical University, Lahore. He enhanced his qualification by earning Post Professional Doctor of Physical Therapy from Riphah International University, Islamabad. He enriched  his  qualification  further  with  a Master of Philosophy in Physiotherapy  From   King Edward Medical University, Lahore & Postgraduate  Diploma  in  Professional  Ethics  and Teaching Methodology from Riphah International University, Islamabad.He is a Certified Health Professional Educator from University of Lahore. He did his PhD Physiotherapy from Tehran University of Medical Sciences. He has been the Gold Medalist throughout his academic career. He has supervised more than 50 research theses and have 58 research publications in National and International Journals including Impact Factor. He was elected Finance Secretary of Punjab Chapter of Pakistan Physical Therapy Association for 2011-2015 and General Secretary for 2018-2020. He played a major role in launching Post Graduate Programs of Rehabilitation Sciences in RIPHAH Lahore campus.
